Nokia 770 Internet Tablet

Nokia announced the birth of a new product range with the launch of the Debian Linux powered Nokia 770 Internet Tablet. Looking a bit like a Nokia 7710 on steroids, being 13mm wider and 10 mm taller, the new 770 is meant to be a home Internet appliance that, get this, is not a phone at all. That's right; the 770 has no mobile phone inside. Instead it relies on its Bluetooth v1.2 and WiFi (802.11b) support to connect to the Internet either through your home WiFi router or via your Bluetooth compatible mobile phone. Nokia envisions the 770 as an inexpensive (about US$350) and convenient replacement for the 2nd or 3rd PC a family might have at home. It is the kind of device that you leave on the coffee table or on the night stand next to your bed. When you need to check your email or do a quick Internet search, you just power it on instantly (like a PDA) and have at it. Thanks to the 770's massive 4.13" diagonal, 800x480 pixel display, browsing and email should be quite comfortable. In addition to the Opera web browser and the built-in email client, the initial Q3 2005 release of the 770 will also ship with a RSS news reader, an Internet radio, various media players, a PDF viewer, and Flash v6 compatibility.

A user installable software upgrade that is expected in Q1 of 2006 will introduce Voice Over IP (VOIP) and Instant Messaging to the mix. Text input on the 770 works much the same as with the 7710, supporting both a virtual keyboard and handwriting recognition via a pen stylus. The UI could be considered a simpler version of the Series 90 UI seen on the 7710. Apart from the stylus, the 770 offers a 5-way d-pad controller, and home, menu, escape, zoom, and full screen hardware buttons for user interaction. As I mentioned, the 770's software is based on Debian Linux (v2.6). The new platform is called "maemo", and the user interfaced is derived from the well-known GNOME UI seen on Linux boxes around the world. Nokia plans for maemo to be an open platform (much of it being Open Source based) and will provide a SDK. The 770 runs on a TI 1710 OMAP (ARM based) processor, and has 64MB of DDR RAM, and 128MB of internal FLASH memory, of which about 64MB should be available to the user.

Storage can be augmented by inserting a RS-MMC memory card. A 64MB card will ship with the device. The 770's v1.2 Bluetooth system supports the Dialup Networking, File Transfer, GAP, Serial Port, and SIM Access profiles. USB connectivity is also available, as is the forementioned WiFi support. The included 1500mAh battery should be good for about 3 hours of browsing or 7 days of standby time. Also included in the retail package is a USB cable, a travel charger, a carry pouch, and a desk stand. No stereo headset is included, but thankfully Nokia has decided to include a regular 3.5mm stereo headset jack instead of relying on the finicky Pop-Port based headsets they currently push. You can get more information on the maemo platform at the official maemo website. We'll have live photos from the Nokia 770 launch event at LinuxWorld NYC available later in the day.

How To Remove Trojan Horse, Adware, Spyware for free

Recently my pc is full of those things. U name it my pc got it. Internet dail up connected automaticly, web pages poping out of nowhere, pc getting slower, pc wont shut down. Its quiet a headache and since I am too lazy to format my pc so i decided to see what I can do to remove the infection. Best of all I am using all the free tools available on the internet.

This is how I manage to clean up my pc totally. Now my pc is like brand new using all the freeware tools available. Software that i use are:

  1. Spyware Terminator
  2. AVG Anti Virus.

Using these 2 programs manage to clean up my pc. This is how I do it, hope some of you having the same problem can have an idea what to do.

Download the 2 programs from the internet and install. Update all the definition files if needed and run the scan for Spyware Terminator 1st. After the Terminator has done its job sent in AVG to finish it. The Terminator may have to go in a few times before its done. As for AVG finishing the job with one blow is enough.

Should you get Office 2007?

How many of the 1,500 features in Word have you ever used? And how much of your time have you spent on hunting for an Excel function that is actually tucked away in the third sub-menu? Finally, it seems that Microsoft developers have asked themselves these very questions and answered it by restructuring the entire interface of their office suite.

The new interface called “Fluent” employs a simplistic concept and only displays options that are important for the current tasks. According to Microsoft, this allows you to go about your work much faster and more professionally. For this test, we used the ‘Professional’ version of Office 2007.

Apple Intel Launch

Guess What’s Inside: The Apple logo adorns a familiar set of processors.

A Marriage of Giants

On 12 Jan, Apple Singapore launched the latest Macs running Intel Core Dual processors. Hardware side, the MacBook Pro and the newest iMac are launched, together with software upgrades.

The MacBook Pro is a sleek 1-inch thin aluminum notebook weighing just 2.54kg. Touted to run four times faster than the previous PowerBook G4, it sure looks like the newest must-have computer peripheral to lug around and proudly display. It will cost the techno-fashionista S$3688 for the 1.67GHz 15-inch model and S$4588 for the 1.83GHz one. For that price you get a built-in iSight videocam using iChat AV to video-conference, software like iLife, Apple Remote and Front Row, and the patent-pending MagSafe magnetic power connector.

The newest iMac incarnation also sports the Intel Core Dual processor, claimed to make it twice as fast as the previous iMac. From S$2388, you can bring home one now. Software-wise it has what the MacBook Pro has and more.

Apple also launched iLife, which rounds up iPhoto 6, iMovie HD 6, iDVD 6, GarageBand 3 and iWeb. iWeb is a new software for creating web pages, especially online photo albums, blogs and Podcasts with templates. iLife is included in all new Macs, but if you want to buy separately it costs S$158 through Apple Online Store.

For office workers, iWork ’06 is targeted at them. It has Pages 2 for word documents, Keynote 3 for 3D charts, iPhoto-like advanced image editing and spreadsheet-like tables. iWork ’06 is not free for new Macs, though a 30-day trial is available. It can also be purchased at S$158 through Apple Online Store.
Last but not least, the iPod gets a Radio Remote for the Nano and the 5th generation iPod. You can listen to radio when you want to hear breaking news, aside from your favourite songs in your iPod.

Hot Tips: Displaying Icons In Quick Launch Bar

Recently I added a few shortcuts in the Quick Launch Bar. But instead of showing the icons, it shows a ">>" continuation button which needs to be clicked to bring up the remainder icons. How do I extend the Quick Launch Bar to display all the icons?

The answer is just into your eyes. The quick launch Bar can display a maximum of three icons by default. When you add further shortcuts, a ">>" button is displayed which brings up the icons when clicked. The Quick Launch Bar can be extended in the following way:

wah...so formal I typed..:D

* Right click the taskbar and uncheck the option "Lock The Taskbar"

* You'll notice that the toolbar can be extended by dragging its border.

* Drag the edge to extend the toolbar so that it displays all the icons.

* After you're satisfied, right click the taskbar and check back the "Lock the Taskbar" option.Done!! Try it and feel free to comment

So I hope this tips will make you fell better. By the way, it not necessary to drag until you see all teh icon. Just drag as much as you want.

see ya
